Capturing a certain area of the screen, using a rectangle or other shapes, is a useful function which is incorporated in many applications. If you place the shape in the wrong position, you will have to start the process all over again. This is not the case with Capture Express. It is a lightweight utility which allows you to capture the whole screen or certain area and objects with minimum effort. Additionally, it lets you move the "grabber" during the capture process, so you will not have to perform the same process, multiple times, before taking a precise snapshot.

You will be glad to know that Capture Express works just fine with most Windows versions. Its setup file is only 5 Mb large and the installation process is fast. The installed software does not take up too much disk space and it uses very few resources.

The application makes it possible to capture the entire screen, an active window or its client area. It is also possible to capture a region of the screen, using rectangle or many other shapes, which can be selected from a drop menu. You can select one of these capturing methods by clicking their designated radio buttons and set a capture delay, in seconds, on the same window.

When you are ready, you need to click the Capture button and the software will capture the screen, according to your specifications. If you opt for a rectangle or another shape, you have to click once to start drawing the shape, move the mouse cursor to enlarge it and click a second time to capture the selected area. If you make an imprecise selection, you do not have to create the screenshot and try again. Clicking the right mouse button will make it possible to move the shape.

The screenshot will be displayed on the same interface, along with different options. You can select an action, like saving the image, copying it to the clipboard, printing or saving it by email and click a button to execute. If the screenshot does not come out as you expected, you can try again until you get it right, before saving the image and it only requires clicking a button.

Images can be saved in different formats, such as JPG, BMP, PNG, GIF or TIFF. If you want to send it via email, you can use the software's built-in mail client. The mail server, user name, password and other details can be specified on the application's preferences panel, where you will find other options as well.

Pros

Taking snapshots is done very easily. The application places many shapes at your disposal, which you can use to capture a specific area of the screen. While defining an area, you can move the shape at any time, without needing to start over.

Cons

Capture Express has a built-in image viewer, but it does not have options for zooming in or out. Thanks to the functionality that Capture Express provides, you can take precise snapshots of your screen, during the first try. Its user friendly interface makes screen capturing a simple process, even for inexperienced users.
